The weight of anxiety
Worried Thoughts is a public service announcement (PSA) aimed at raising awareness around anxiety through an emotionally driven visual experience.
The goal of this project was to create a PSA on a subject of our choice.
Although the project originated in a graphic design context, I approached it with a user-centered mindset, focusing on how visual choices shape emotional perception and understanding.
Rather than relying heavily on text, I prioritized visual communication to mirror how anxiety is often felt before it can be articulated. My goal was to help viewers momentarily experience the fear, pressure, and loss of control associated with anxiety, fostering empathy rather than simply delivering information.
I developed a series of photo composites using visual metaphors such as drowning, confinement, and sensory overload. These metaphors were selected to reflect common lived experiences of anxiety.
To support accessibility and clarity, I integrated textual elements only where they added value, ensuring legibility, hierarchy, and minimal cognitive load.
This project strengthened my ability to design for emotional impact and empathy, while balancing expression with clarity. I aimed to create an experience that feels seen and validating for those who may recognize themselves in it.
